Yellow Birch can sometimes, though rarely, re-seed on “nurse trees”, trees which have fallen in the forest and upon which plants and fungi seed themselves. When the nurse tree decomposes yellow birch trees are left standing on stilt-like roots. After carving the essential form of the table base from the root system it was fitted with a Spalted Yellow Birch Burl top. The lyric quality of the form of the roots combined with the tracery of the Spalted patterns of the burl top creates a Birchsong.
