The process of creating fabric art and art quilts generates a lot of scrap material, often in very small generally unusable cuts and strips. Rather than toss them in the trash, the artist collected bins of these tiny pieces. This artwork is the result of using eco-friendly in-studio methods to recycle and upcycle all waste. One of the artist's favorite paintings is Monet's Apple Blossoms at Giverny. The artist decided to recreate the composition in a fabric art collage, using recycled scraps in the form of faux brushstrokes. This art quilt uses hundreds of small cuts of fabric to mimic paintbrush strokes, recreating an impressionist style. The twigs and branches are embroidered onto an appliqued base, with the brushstrokes applied using an eco-friendly acid-free fabric adhesive and stitchwork. The artist used sky-blue faux suede for the border. Batting is organic cotton. Gallery-wrapped around a stretched canvas frame. Can be hung as is, or framed within a custom frame.
