Million Dollar Theatre. Sid Grauman, Los Angeles first major theatre was named Grauman's Theatre when it opened on February 1, 1918 with William S. Hart in "The Silent Man" Following the hype over its price tag, it soon became known as Grauman's Million Dollar Theatre, although it was not officially named this until 1922.Among the famous names who attended the opening night were: Jesse L. Lasky, Thomas Ince, Mack Sennett, Hal Roach, Cecil B. DeMille, D.W. Griffith, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Charlie Chaplin and Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle. The Continental Building (1902) was originally known as the Braly Building. The 12-story building was designed by John Parkinson is considered the first "skyscraper" in Los Angeles. It was the tallest building in Los Angeles until 1907. It is known for its highly ornamental cornice and bands. The Continental Building was converted into lofts in 2002 after being vacant for several decades. It was designated a Historic Cultural Landmark in 2002. Matted and Framed.

My current project – City Recycled, looks at the rejuvenation of historic downtown Los Angeles, an area known as the Historic Core. Often photography looks at urban decay focusing on the demise of these grand buildings. I want to look at these areas in a positive light as they are being refurbished, creating exciting new structures for mixed use. Looking at the future, through the past
