Looking beyond fabric to other types of environmentally friendly fibers and materials, the artist discovered some fabulous woven grass and unbleached pulp papers that begged to be used in mosaic collage work. A greensward is an area which is primarily covered in grass. The term is also an apt description of a greensward. The differentiation between the two terms often refers to man-made grasslands as greenswards. In shades of cream, blue, tan, and sage, the artist hand-cut over 885 individual pieces for the mosaic. The artist drafted the design based on the labyrinth pattern found in Chartres Cathedral, which is about 40 ft. in diameter and crafted of blue and white stone. The mosaic is mounted on a stretched canvas frame, using an eco-friendly acid-free adhesive. The frame is a spectacular custom olive wood frame. Wired for hanging.
