The junk-chic design series came together one night when designer Luis Quintero began welding together metal scraps left over from his design process. He came up with unique jewelry items that emphasize the value of recycling and reuse in jewelry-making. Each item in this series is literally like no other since each employs a unique variety of metal scrap pieces available at the time of its creation. This particular ring is handcrafted using recycled 18K yellow gold and features a 1 carat yellow topaz (also know as citrine) as its center stone bordered by two conflict-free diamonds.

Luis Quintero has worked in the jewelry industry for over 30 years. He is a native of Medellin, Colombia with talent and expertise in nearly all facets of jewelry making: designing, casting, repurposing, repairing, welding, filigree, gem restoration and appraisal and as a metalsmith. Luis Fernando creates jewelry that melds traditional elegance with the eclectic future. He typically works with precious and semi-precious metals and gemstones, but didn't encounter a material he couldn't weld, meld or twist into a fabulous accessory. Luis Quintero's jewelry pieces are distinguished by their painstakingly intricate wire-patterns, crafted using a technique known in jewelry-making as filigree. Luis Quintero designs feature unique gemstone combinations and bring together old-world, high-quality craftsmanship, with modern colors, angles and shapes. All of Luis Quintero's designs are original and handcrafted and made using recycled metals and conflict-free gemstones.
