This dining table is made from carved and painted poplar, and has a thick hard maple top with integral steel reinforcement in the top. This is a small dining table, to seat four very comfortably. This piece can be easily made to support a longer top to seat 6 to 8 people. The base consists of three individual sculpted forms attached to an arched pedestal. The entire base is made of stack-laminated, kiln-dried FSC poplar lumber. This approach is technically the most structurally sound, and far superior, as it eliminates the possibility of cracking and checking that would happen over time if they were sculpted from logs. The three large base forms are carved with a combination of hand and power tools, with many, many hours of hand work to achieve the refined sculptural form, and hand carved surface texture.
